43 victims were admitted to Limbang Divisional Hospital due to sign of cholera disease last week, after attending a wedding's feast at Kampung Buang Abai, Limbang, Sarawak on 6th March 2011.
Meanwhile, some of 43 victims including childrens, were isolated in Limbang Indoor Stadium, which is the main sports venue,as temporary location for preventing spreading of the disease and 'treatment'and 20 others were admitted to Limbang Divisional Hospital for close observation and treatment.
The outbreak was initially notified on March 7 by Limbang Hospital as food poisoning to Limbang District Health Office and on March 10, Limbang Hospital laboratory informed that two patients were tested positive for Vibro Cholerae 01, Serotype Ogawa.
A investigating team is contacting the patients to investigate the risk factors for cholera and active case detection is still ongoing in the five villages to identify the cases and contacts as well as to identify the source of infection.
Measures for the control in prevention of cholera are already in place, which consist of providing clean water and proper sanitation to the villagers concerned. Currently, the investigation team is also monitoring the quality of the treated water in Limbang regularly
